Community Awards 2020 tickets on sale now
Tickets go on sale today (16 October) for the 2020 Community Awards which take place at St James on Tuesday November 17.
The Awards, organised by the Guernsey Community Foundation, celebrate local charities, individuals and businesses who have raised money, delivered services and undertaken community projects for the Bailiwick’s benefit.
Jim Roberts, chief executive of the Guernsey Community Foundation said: “This year’s Community Awards will not only celebrate the fantastic work that goes on in our community but will also be an opportunity to mark the Foundation’s 10th anniversary year and all that has been achieved since our inception.
“During the evening we will be showcasing some of the fabulous charities that the Foundation has supported as well as celebrating the success of many individuals, groups and voluntary organisations who have all gone that extra mile. It is going to be a great occasion.”
As in previous years the Foundation anticipates that tickets will sell out fast and is therefore encouraging everyone to book early to avoid disappointment.
The diversity of the voluntary sector will be on show during the event, with three shortlisted in each of the seven categories all being recognised for their outstanding work on behalf of the community.
Jason Green, Chair of the Judging Panel and Collas Crill Partner said: "We're delighted at the strength of this year's shortlisted nominees and very much look forward to welcoming them, sponsors and members of the public to our ceremony.”
Guernsey’s former Bailiff, Sir Richard Collas, has been invited to be the guest speaker at this year’s event. BBC Radio Guernsey journalist, Oscar Pearson, will be the compere and during the ceremony guests will be entertained by Liberate’s Rainbow Chorus choir.
Mr Roberts said: “We are honoured that Sir Richard has agreed to join us to celebrate this year’s achievements of the voluntary sector and to present the awards to the winners.
“As such a well-known and popular figure in our community and a great supporter of the island’s charities and voluntary organisations, he is a perfect fit in what can only be described as a very challenging year for everyone.”
Nominations for the 2020 Community Awards are now closed and the Foundation has received a strong number of entries across all the categories. The short list will be announced in the first week of November.
During the event guests will enjoy a full afternoon tea which will run at St James from 4.30 to 7 pm.
Tickets are available via the Eventbrite link https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/community-awards-2020-tickets-124274776201 and will be sold on a first come first served basis, priced at £10 per person. As the awards are always oversubscribed, no more than 10 tickets can be purchased per group.
