Cruise company floats idea of voluntourism for Guernsey
Cruise agents 'Intercruises' have approached the Guernsey Community Foundation for advice and support in developing the concept of Voluntourism in the island.
The company, which is currently working with Crystal Cruise whose ships dock in Guernsey throughout the summer, is looking for local charities and voluntary organisations who could offer passengers an interactive volunteering experience during their visit.
Examples around the world have included visiting orphanages and spending time playing games with the children, helping out at turtle rescue centres, and getting involved in tree planting schemes and conservation projects.
The complimentary volunteering experiences have proved to be very popular and Crystal Cruise is in the process of expanding the offering by researching opportunities in each of the ports it visits - including Guernsey.
Any local organisations who are interested in making the most of some helping hands are encouraged to contact Charlotte Salmon at Intercruises on firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling her on 0207 467 7626
