Lady Rowland was born near Cardiff and graduated in 1970 with a BSc Hons in Botany from Southampton University. After working for Plant Protection Ltd (ICI) in herbicide research she moved to Guernsey on marrying Advocate Geoffrey Rowland. She was Experiments Officer at the Horticultural Advisory Service and since 1997 has worked intermittently with Raymond Evison OBE on four clematis books and on other projects.
Diana has held a number of positions in the voluntary sector including:- Women’s Royal Voluntary Service - Meals on Wheels, HSBC Private Bank Charitable Trust, St John Council, National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, National Council for the Conservation of Plants and Gardens, Lloyds TSB Foundation for the Channel Isles, and Floral Guernsey. Since Sir Geoffrey’s appointment as Bailiff, Diana has become President or Patron of:- the British Red Cross (Guernsey), St John Ambulance (Guernsey), Guernsey Sea Cadets, Guernsey Camerata, Pink Ladies, Guernsey Society for Physically Disabled People, Volunt-here, the Guernsey Flower Arrangement Society and is Vice-President of the Lifeboat Guild.
